Web Developer Application Form
We have a position available for a full-time web developer working primarily in ASP/MySQL/XML/HTML/CSS and JavaScript. The position is based in Sheffield.
Duties will include:
- Developing and maintaining our “Apex CMS 4” content management system.
- Building CMS templates to W3C standards using XML/XSLT.
- Supporting existing clients.
- Updating documentation.
- Updating management on project progress and using in-house project management tools.
- Answering the telephone (shared duty).
Detailed knowledge of ASP/SQL/XML/HTML/CSS and JavaScript is essential. A working knowledge of DNS, SMTP, POP3 and HTTP protocols is desirable but not essential (although an understanding of the web page life cycle and corresponding session context is). Other useful skills include using JQuery, SVN and Photoshop. You will be expected to quickly gain an understanding of an existing large software system by using the software and examining its code, to the point where you are able to trace errors, suggest modifications and implement enhancements. Therefore the position requires a self-motivated person who is able to investigate and evaluate software systems themselves, although support will be provided as appropriate.
The successful candidate will migrate their skills to ASP.NET and VB.NET applications and will be encouraged to grow their skills in these areas, possibly working towards a Microsoft certification. Existing knowledge of ASP.NET and the .Net Framework would be an advantage but is not essential.
